When you purchase a new car with a warranty, many people often wonder if that means they have to have their vehicle’s routine maintenance serviced by the dealership to keep the warranty valid. This is especially concerning if the dealership is not close, or you are on a budget and find a better deal at a different repair shop.
The answer is NO. Legally a dealership cannot require you to use them for regular maintenance to keep your warranty valid. However, some dealership’s will try and claim that because they did not do the maintenance, they cannot prove that it was done. To avoid this issue make sure that you document everything in detail and save your receipts. It is also important to read your warranty as it can require that service is carried out by qualified staff, the manufactures specification are followed and/or appropriate parts are used.
